General Manager
BRITISH COLUMBIA GROUND WATER ASSOCIATION
The BCGWA is a not‐for profit society whose mission is to provide professional and technical leadership in the advancement of the groundwater industry and the protection, promotion, and responsible development of groundwater resources in BC.
The BCGWA is seeking to fill the position of General Manager (GM). The requirements for the position are as follows:
- Be a groundwater professional or senior trade person in the groundwater industry or have groundwater knowledge and understanding
- Be a motivated self-starter who can identify tasks that need to be done, set reasonable deadlines, and take initiative to ensure they are completed in a timely manner
- Post-secondary school educational training would be an asset
- Possess good communications skills in written and spoken form
- Possess strong administrative and organizational skills including email, video conferencing and scheduling
- Applicants must be competent in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Acrobat Pro and other standard office software.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the overall business activities and communications for a 300-member industry association as directed by the BCGWA Board (Executive Committee and Directors)
- Coordinate and attend monthly online BCGWA Board meetings
- Collaborate with the Executive Secretary on business and financial matters
- Organize and coordinate the annual BCGWA convention/trade show and fall regional meetings
- Communicate and meet with provincial government staff
- Advocate for a robust trade certification process and investigate professional development and/or association membership requirements
- Respond to groundwater and trade application inquiries from members and the public
- Meet and be actively involved with other provincial technical and business associations
- Regularly organize and chair meetings within and outside the BCGWA
- Develop content for quarterly newsletter and social media accounts
- Position Workload and Time Commitment:
Based on past years the time commitment for this position is expected to be between 650-800 hours per year. Workload varies with peaks in January-April (convention preparation) and October/November (regional meetings), where workload could be as high as 100 hours/month while summers are often slower with as little as 30 hours per month.
Note: This position is ideal for individuals who are retired, semi-retired, or seeking reduced hours. Due to the fluctuating time commitments throughout the year, maintaining a second job may be challenging during busy times.
Salary Conditions:
Compensation is based on a straight hourly rate of $55.00 per hour for hours worked, under conditions negotiated with the British Columbia Ground Water Association Executive. Over the past five years, the average annual salary for this position has been approximately $60,000.
