Dear Members,

As most of you may be aware, the Canadian Ground Water Association (CGWA) has recently done an audit on members who have not kept their Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) up to date. If you are certified by the CGWA as a Drilling Technician or Pump Technician (Class 1 or 2) you are required to acquire 15 CEU points per year to main certification.

There are three ways to be registered as a Qualified Well Driller (QWD) or Qualified Pump Installer (QPI) in the Province of British Columbia -

• Grandfathered (no longer available);
• BC Industry Training Authority (ITA) certification exams;
• CGWA certification exams for Drilling or Pump Technician (1 or 2).

If you are registered in BC under the CGWA certification exam process, you must keep up a minimum of CEU’s (15 points or 7.5 hours) and report them annually.

We were notified recently that there are a number of CGWA certified members that are delinquent in the up-keep of their CEU’s. Those members have been notified and will potentially be de-certified by the CGWA at the end of year 2010. If you are de-certified by the CGWA you will automatically be de-registered by the BC Ministry of Environment and therefore cannot legally continue to ply your trade in BC, until you are re-certified/registered.

To assist those of you who are delinquent, the BCGWA is offering a two day workshop entitled Determining Problems and Solutions Impacting Well Systems. This course will be held on March 7 & 8, 2011 at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel in Surrey (Vancouver). This course is for both Drilling Technicians and Pump Technicians (1 & 2).

We have been informed by the CGWA that attendance (and certification of) at this course will be sufficient to re-certify you as a member in good standing to end of 2010 and therefore avoid de-registration in BC. This is a ONE-TIME offer. From 2011 on, any Drilling/Pump Technician CGWA certified member who does not keep their CEU’s up-to-date and complete the CEU record form each year when paying their annual dues, will be de-certified and subsequently de-registered in BC. You will be required to re-write your specific exam before you can be re-certified and subsequently re-registered in BC.

If you were grandfathered or certified through the BC ITA program, you do not need to maintain CEU’s and you will not be de-registered from the Province of BC.

Please contact the BCGWA office if you need further details.

Langley, British Columbia– Monday, September 15, 2008

This program is a full day of topics for Water System Operators and therefore can recognize the program for 0.6 Continuing Education Units.

Watermark Submission

The Small Water Users Association of BC will be sponsoring a series of one day workshops for small water systems in the fall of 2008, in partnership with the regional Health Authorities. Operators, owners and managers are all welcome to attend the workshops. Each workshop is expected to qualify for 0.6 CEUs for operators interested in maintaining their EOCP certification. The dates and locations for the workshops are as follows:

September 18 - 108 Mile House
October 20 - Campbell River
October 22 - Duncan
October 27 - Abbotsford

Workshop invitations and agendas will be sent to water systems sometime in August or early September. In the meantime anyone interested in attending any of these workshops or desiring more information is invited to contact Denny Ross-Smith at the Small Water Users Association of BC as follows.
