   Abandoned Wells

Abandoned wells pose a safety hazard and can be a path for contamination to your groundwater if not properly filled and sealed.

Abandoned Wells

Close and seal abandoned wells properly -
Contact a reputable Well Driller to complete the work.

Abandoned wells should be sealed from the bottom up. In most cases only well contractors have the right equipment to do this.

Any pumps, pipes or related well equipment should be removed so that the well may be filled and sealed properly.

Generally proper well sealing requires the use of special sealing material, usually cement-bentonite grout or bentonite clay clips.

The use fo straight Portland cement is discouraged because as the cement shrinks in volume during curing small fractures and gaps will be left which water may penetrate.

Note: Abandoning wells is regulated by the Groundwater Protection Regulation

Don't use Portland cement to seal wells!!
