   Well Construction

An improperly constructed well can lead to problems with well water contamination.

Proper well construction is the second critical step in ensuring that your water source does not become contaminated by runoff or flooding. A properly located well will not protect your water if the well is improperly constructed.

- Select a recognized licensed well driller with a good reputation

- Extend casing and grouting (bentonite clay) to minimum 3m / 10f depth

- Slope ground away from wellhead

- Extend casing minimum 45cm / 18" above ground

- Ensure watertight cap and joints with no opening in the well shaft (eg. electrical wire conduit)

- Ensure adequate backflow prevention including outdoor hose bibs

- Note: Well construction is regulated by the Groundwater Protection Regulation
